Taylor Harman, Ph.D.

Taylor Harman is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Anthropology at 91ºÚÁÏÍø, where she conducts research in the Anthropological Health & Data Science (AHDS) Lab. Her work spans multiple aspects of human health and biology, including pregnancy and infant health, heat stress and child growth, and health inequities.

Taylor earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from Syracuse University, where she received interdisciplinary training across anthropology and exercise science. This background allowed her to develop expertise in human biology from multiple perspectives, combining evolutionary theory with physiological measurement techniques. Her doctoral research focused on human adaptation to high-altitude environments, examining populations in Nepal and Peru to better understand physiological and evolutionary differences.

At 91ºÚÁÏÍø, Taylor has expanded her research to focus on broader measures of human health, particularly in the United States. She uses advanced statistical approaches, including Bayesian modeling, to predict negative health outcomes among birthing persons and infants. Her work contributes to ongoing efforts to better understand and address disparities in maternal and infant health.

As her postdoctoral fellowship concludes, Taylor will join the California State Government as a research scientist with the Department of Healthcare Access and Information. In this role, she will apply her expertise in human health and data science to real-world challenges, using data analysis to inform healthcare policy decisions at the state level.
